These lands are where lions come to be free from the tyranny of man. Their familes are being hunted and killed for their skins, their claws, and for trophies. In the direct center of Africa, lies the Onyejekwe Wildlife Reserve. Poachers and Hunters are not allowed to hunt in these parts. Wild lions find sanctuary, raise up their prides, control land, and fight for territory expansion.
From the start of Onyejekwe Reserve, only one lion pride was formed. Dakarai was formed by King Akuma. Will you choose the life of a family, or will you reside all alone and wander the savannah?

Tail swaying with each step, curling up just before brushing the ground, she walked with a sense of defeat in each step. She’d finally joined a Pride after being rejected for so long, but the young lioness couldn’t help but feel like it was a mistake. Before long, she had realized that she’d already broken one of her new king’s rules. Don’t go out alone. Lifting her head and looking around, ears swiveling, she realized she’d become lost. From between black lips, a growl slipped free. Knowing she would probably be able to find her way back by scent, she became worried that they wouldn’t let her back. Frustrated at messing up so soon, she took off running in the opposite direction, heavy paws carrying her further from her new pride and into unfamiliar territory. The ground around her sprung up in lush foliage, forcing her to slow down. Continuing further into the brush, black ears welcomed the sound of running water, changing her course towards the sound of waterfalls. Pace inching to almost a crawl, Makena slipped through greenery until greeted by fresh water at the base of a waterfall.
Stretching up her head, she looked around and listened, not noticing anything until tasting the air. The faint smell of a male lion grazing her nose. Lingering on it a bit longer, she eventually brushed it aside and lowered her cream belly lower to the muddy bank, lapping at the water a few times though her body remained tense and on alarm.
[attr="class","lekanin"]Curiosity wasn't often what stole Lekan away from his senses. However, the buzz of happiness that still crackled through his limbs and soaked through his brain seemed to have altered his mood. No matter if it was temporary or not, he was happy. It was definitely a contrast to his usual sulky, standoffish behavior. A small smile broke out whenever one of his pridemates glanced in his direction and he would catch himself offering them a tiny nod of greeting nearly every time. In the short amount of time that he'd been here, Lekan had been warmly welcomed. Whether this be the cause or not, Lekan's curiosity had resurfaced from his days as a teenager. And so when he'd caught the scent of an unfamiliar female, something within him had urged him to follow it. He had no idea why the compulsion to tail it was creeping up on him now, it felt so unnecessary. Reasoning that he simply wished to interact with the members of his new pride, Lekan's paws began to walk along the scent's trail.
It came as a surprise to the male when the female's scent hadn't turned back after a few good minutes of walking. Where had she gone off to? And why had she gone so far to get there? Was she meeting someone? An endless array of questions and wild theories haunted his mind. Briefly did Lekan wonder if following her had been the brightest idea, considering that if he were to catch her doing something of the disloyal sort he would have no alibi in claiming that he was not involved. Just the idea of it made his insides feel as if they were made of rock. Still, he trudged on. If anything, the thought of such a scandal had driven his curiosity into a frenzy. With a low rumble of displeasure at the back of his throat, he hoped that maybe she'd just gotten herself lost.
Distractions were quick to present themselves, however. As he walked, the Katanga male was hardly capable of eyeing anything but the greenery. Even the Dakarai cat's scent was beginning to fade away, dispersing into the leaves and blades of the plants surrounding him. The distant sound of running water, powerful enough for Lekan to assume it a waterfall, churned within his ears. The feline hadn't realized until now that he was thirsty and the nagging scratchiness of his throat prevented him from forgetting it. With a new goal in mind, Lekan began a light jog, catching sight of the shimmering surface of water soon enough. Without second thoughts he moved towards it, ignoring the protest of the plants as their arms wrapped around the width of his powerful limbs. Crouching by the muddied edge of the pool, Lekan's tongue shot out, scooping the satisfying liquid down his parched throat. After about thirty seconds of this, he looked back up, eyelids drooping slightly with contentment. Suddenly, a bolt of electricity shot through him, causing him to twitch. She was perched a good distance away, but she was close enough that he could see the stiffness of her muscles and the faded cub spots dancing along her back. How could he have not noticed until now?
In the highly likely case that he'd been spotted himself, Lekan would rise up, tail twitching lightly and eyes calculating as they appraised the other. He would wait for her to speak first, to see what she had to say.
Should the smaller cat not have taken note of his presence, the male would stiffen for a moment, wondering what he should do. Finally, he would decide to stand up until he had her attention.
The feeling of eyes is what set her off to his presence finally. Obsidian ears now pointed towards and focusing on him. The smaller Lion nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw him. Dark eyes took quick notes of him, nearing Akuma's size, he was still smaller , but when did that ever stop a persistent male? What stuck out the most to her were the scars that decorated his pelt. Surely she hadn't gone far enough away from the pride that rogue males wandered freely.
Makena was unaware of the pride's newest addition, the male that stood before her. Tense muscles shifted under a spotted pelt as she stood up. Her intimidation would seem fruitless to herself as she realized there was nearly a foot difference in height between the pair. Slowly the lioness' ears laid flat against her skull. A low grumbled found its way up from her chest, but the sound was drowned out by the constant churning of the nearby falls.
'Did he follow me here? No, he looks almost as surprised. Unfortunate luck for me if it was just a coincidence.' During her stare down with the strange new figure, Makena's mind raced for answers before even considering solutions to what she had seen as a predicament. All the while, she was looking him over, not necessarily with interest, but feeling she may need to remember what he looked like.
After a few seconds of self encouragement that seemed to last forever, she spoke, though the voice that emerged only gave away the fear more so than her initial jump. "Who are you?" Voice cracking slightly. Her voice wasn't ideal for a lioness. It was female, but not feminine, matching her more cub like appearance.
[attr="class","lekanin"] The silence that had spread between the two was an uncomfortable one for Lekan Jalloh. The female's intense, fearful eyes were scanning him, he could definitely tell that much. The male's muscles stiffened beneath them, unsure of what they should do. For the moment, however, they remained immobile. Lekan's own gaze was somewhat searching as it focused on his pridemate's face, seeking some kind of reaction. At the moment, she seemed only shocked at having been spotted. This caused the male's eyes to narrow in the slightest. What she'd been doing had seemed innocent enough... and yet her face was telling of a whole other story. What had she been doing before he'd gotten here? Coal-toned nose twitching beneath the breeze, the lion was unable to discern any scent. The water spread beside them and the unfamiliarity of the territory made sure of that. How suspicious!
With a flick of her obsidian ears, she was suddenly struck with her senses and immediately took up a defensive position. Lekan could hardly hear her rumbling growl over the deafening roar of the falls. He was tempted to mirror the behavior but instead found his face morphing into an expression of uncertainty. Surely she knew that she didn't pose much of a threat to a male such as he? Despite this, he couldn't have helped the twinge of skepticism that rocked through him. What if she truly was a threat? If she was desperate enough to keep whatever secret she had buried? And what if she had friends lurking nearby? Possibly watching? His brown eyes quickly scanned the territory before returning to their original target.
As he'd allowed, the stranger spoke first. In a tone that held very little in terms of confidence, she asked him who he was. Would a guilty party not question why he was here instead? Hmm... Shaking away any sign of emotion from his features, he said, "I am Lekan Jalloh." A single ear flicking, he could feel his eyes freezing over her, once again gauging her response. As he knew his name would mean very little to her, he clarified with, "I belong to Dakarai... same as you." At this, he took a few steps forward. He did not want the entirety of this conversation to be carried out over raised voices just so as to overcome the water's. "If you don't mind my asking, what are you doing so far from our lands?" Clearly not one for beating around the bush, Lekan had barely been hesitant in voicing his curiosity.
To her befuddlment, he didn't respond with aggression as she initially expected him too. He held every reason to from her own behavior. Watching his weight shift slightly when Lekan's eyes fixated on her before making a quick sweep of the area. A single ear swindled back around towards him, her own rumble ceasing in attempt to hear whom ever he may have been looking for. Held completely unaware of their mirrored circumstance, she held her ground for the time being.
Hearing him speak only added to his intimidating stature, but what he said stuck her as strange. Though her guarded pose remained constant, both ears had sprung straight up, a slight tilt of her head coupled with a confused expression turned her weak display of aggression into a much softer atmosphere about her. Though his actually name meant nothing to him before, it certainly held a meaning to her now. A thick shroud of mist about the pair had left their sense of smell almost useless. She'd been hardly able to detect his scent let alone the smell of their Pride she now assumed he carried.
"There is another male in Dakarai?" She didn't give much thought to her words before they spewed out, still not use to thinking before speaking as she only had herself as company for such a long while. Makes almost questioned him again, but pushed, leaving her mouth a gap if only a moment before slamming it shut, left to ponder. 'How does he know that I'm in Dakarai? Unless he's telling the truth? But maybe he followed and smelled it on me earlier.' Her mind raced with questions that she feared no answer. It wasn't until he stepped closer that the young lioness was ripped from her own mind and back to her current predicament. "Why did I come out here?" She had to repeat the question out loud before it stuck. "I wandered too far, now I'm afraid to go back." She admitted. Her weighted rocked backwards, not stepping away from his advance, but certainly leaning away from it.
"But why are you all the way out here alone?" She still sounded skeptical and on alarm, but not as afraid as she was previously.
[attr="class","lekanin"] Lekan could see that, as he spoke, the other seemed to have gradually calmed down. Rather than keeping up her aggressive stance, the lioness had slowly begun to grow softer in demeanor. Her ears perked forward, head tilting sideways like a cub who couldn't quite grasp what she'd been told. At her words, the lion simply mirrored the slight angling of her skull and the perk of her ears, an action that wordlessly said, "apparently". He didn't speak aloud, not yet, as he watched her fumble around. The lioness seemed stuck for something to say, or maybe she just had so much going on in her brain that she had a hard time choosing what to utter.
After repeating his question, she confessed having wandered and she was fearful of the repercussions. With an inaudible grunt, Lekan realized that perhaps she was one of those cats. All jittery and stupid and more akin to a bird than a lioness. He'd met a couple of them in his lifetime and they'd both been excruciatingly painful to endure. His eyes hardened as he watched her lean back from him, the slight curling of his lip betraying his thoughts. The male would much rather she stand her ground, hell, bat him away, even! At least she hadn't stepped back. That would have been the end of her. It's worse that you haven't tried, he wanted to tell her, but she'd already continued speaking. Her question, despite its being expected, still caused Lekan to hesitate. Should he be honest with the female? Admit to her that he'd followed her, or just play it off as a mere coincidence? He doubted that she'd believe such a lie, though, and opted for the truth.
A little ashamedly, he rumbled out, "I caught your scent while exploring Dakarai borders-" okay, maybe not the complete truth "-and grew curious. A little suspicious, too, I suppose." Shrugging, the tan creature added, "I was expecting something a little more scandalous than a waterfall."
Snorting at his own joke, he found his eyes gravitating towards the roaring falls. It was no doubt a beautiful place, and Lekan wondered if maybe she hadn't just wandered off. Maybe she'd just come here to admire the scenery. He couldn't really have blamed her if that were the case, though he was sure that Akuma wouldn't really take too kindly to it. With a sour feeling now spreading across his chest, Lekan remembered the King. He'd been in Dakarai for what felt only like seconds and already he'd run off with some female in a secluded place. Not that females were exactly his cup of tea, but the others probably weren't aware of that. What if someone chose to follow their scents? Lekan suddenly felt a very strong urge to flee... but leaving the stranger here alone (he had to admit he was still unsure what she was truly doing here) was out of the question. He would wait until she made a move to leave.
His mirrored head tilt rather amused her, not really trusting him, but finding him to have even the smallest of a playful side. The development wasn't enough to dispel her guard though. She remained vigilant of he and his battle wounds that she had attributed to temper. Suspicions were only backed up by the snarl, however slight it was. Surely what she'd said wasn't that bad. Was it not fitting to this male that she had wished to follow rules?
Once he'd continued, in turn answering a question of her own, his own words seemed to have struck her in much the same manner. "Sorry my endeavors weren't entertaining enough for you. There was a hint of sarcasm hanging off her words. Despite he small change in tone, her body language remained constant. One ear remained fixated on him. It had to simply to hear him from over the sounds of the pounding water, however the other ebony ear continued to swivel, only managing to catch the usual sounds of the forest that could even be distinguished from the water that ran by them.
She didn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon by the looks of it, still wondering about Lekan's activities, having not fully accepted his story. However, she'd been thrown off guard by his asking of her name. Perhaps it was just to get the formality out of the way since he'd told her his own name. Before answering, she tried to recall his own name, quickly sounding off a list that she though possible until greeted with Lekan, deciding that sounded correct. "My name is Makena Okafor." Though she didn't pay much mind to her own name, her family name slipped from the spotted lioness with a bit of music to it, rather proud of being an Okafor. It wasn't until after that she realized no one this far from where he journey started would know about it.
[attr="class","lekanin"] The sarcasm glinting from the female's words came across more surprising than vexing. With something of a shy demeanor, this choice of language didn't really suit her. And yet it flowed quite smoothly off of her tongue and the male couldn't help but wonder if maybe there was a little more to lioness than he had originally thought. Still, Lekan couldn't help rolling his eyes at her lack of a sense of humor. He did realize, to some degree, how rude the action was, but she had yet to give him a reason to act otherwise. After all, she wasn't exactly the type of cat that demanded respect.
Makena Okafor. The title held little meaning to the lion, but Makena seemed to think otherwise. He hadn't missed the tiny hint of smugness that clung to the words, and his rounded ears, buried somewhere beneath the depth of his mane, perked with curiosity. "Okafor. I've never heard the name. Are you from the reserve?" It would explain his unfamiliarity with the family. Not that Lekan knew many prominent bloodlines as it was. He'd never really cared for prides other than his own.
Clearly, the two were going to be talking for a while. Thusly, Lekan moved his weight to his haunches, ascending into a relaxed seated position. His chocolate eyes were still determinedly fixed on the lioness. He had to admit she was interesting, no matter the fact that she was slightly irritating. He wasn't exactly sure what he was still doing here, casually questioning her about her name. Was she still too scared to go back to Dakarai? The thought was a little sickening, but Lekan decided he'd give her the benefit of the doubt. He'd play nice (at least, as nice as his personality allowed him to be) for now.
