These lands are where lions come to be free from the tyranny of man. Their familes are being hunted and killed for their skins, their claws, and for trophies. In the direct center of Africa, lies the Onyejekwe Wildlife Reserve. Poachers and Hunters are not allowed to hunt in these parts. Wild lions find sanctuary, raise up their prides, control land, and fight for territory expansion.
From the start of Onyejekwe Reserve, only one lion pride was formed. Dakarai was formed by King Akuma. Will you choose the life of a family, or will you reside all alone and wander the savannah?

It was early morning, the day had been slow to start for Vicky. She had an easy catch in her jaws, the hare hadn't been on alert well enough. However she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to eat it. While she was more than willing to eat it, today she had a different plan of action that made her nervous. Today was the day she was going to enter into a pride's turf and ask if she could join them. After being on the move most of the night and the brief little tussle with the hare, Vicky was walking with a slight limp. Yellow eyes picked her path as she carefully made her way down a steep slope. Her dark tipped tail moved side to side as she made her way to what seemed to be the area best suited for her hopeful acceptance.
Despite the scarred leg and soft back, she loved to hunt, it was always something she enjoyed. Hunting for a pride would be a great thing, it was a dream of hers to be a well valued member and the only way to do that would be to first join a pride. Deciding she had gone far enough, the lioness dropped the hare. She had only been on the reserve a few days, it was useless to think of life outside anymore. Her sister was most likely dead and there was nothing she could do about it. That had been so long ago. Vicky dropped her head a little lower, briefly saddened by her memories. That was then and this was now. She bent her head down and picked up the hare, moving a little closer to the area heavy with the scent of other lions.
A few stray drops of rain hit her back, the cold water making the lioness turn her head skyward. It appeared that this day would have no sun either. With a heavy sigh she changed course slightly, moving to a nearby tree. Shade wouldn't matter, but it might help keep some rain off. The sky had only been starting to get light when she caught the hare, now it was getting dark and gloomy. This was not the way she wanted the day to start. With a groan, the lioness dropped to the dirt, nudging the hare to the edge of her reach. Her heavy head dropped over her tired paws as her yellow eyes searched the large rocks just beyond. Thousands of questions lingered in her mind, but as the rain threatened to pour down, her hops of today going well were close to none.
"Nuru's tan eyes reflect the grey sky as he treks away from the Pride and towards the borders. His shoulders set with a determined mindset, his leg muscles ready for a run. He was a 'real odd one' as his sister had once put it: love the speed, the thrill of running, the taste of wind in the air. The thought propels him forward and he quickly slows to a trot again; not wanting to spend his energy getting to the fields. Akuma hadn't sent him on patrol today; thank Kgosi, and he decides to enjoy his, seldom brief, freedom.
Nuru's stomach churns uncomfortably as he picks his way up a slope. It's the feeling of eating too little and then doing too much; and he stops to rid himself of the feeling. At the top of a small hill, he can see the Pride Rock from here - a grey bulge in the otherwise sea of wheat. With a final push of effort, he gets himself up to his paws and slowly walks down the other side of the hill, placing each large paw so that he means it.
It's a little late when Nuru feels the coldness of water seeping into his back. With alarm, he glances at the darkening sky and runs. While he isn't the worst with water and rain, he's not the biggest fan of getting colds or that feeling of your mane sticking to your coat. With a grunt, he spies a lone tree in the distance and makes a beeline for it. To his utmost relief, he hasn't felt anymore water touch his back but it was better safe than sorry, right? Nuru makes it to the tree before the scent of something unfamiliar reaches his nose. He creeps around the edge of the tree and spots the lioness lounging in the cover of the tree.
With a scrape of his paws, to not seem that intruding, he comes up behind her and manages and soft noise in the back of his throat. "I presume you're a traveller?"
The rain poured heavily from the skies above. He figured the storm had sometime started late in the night. He could hear the roar of thunder and the clash of lightning. It awoke him so early in the morning as the sound seemed to bounce of the walls of his den. He walked to the entrance and stared up at the flashing lights. The sight was beautiful and perfect. He hated the rain, but this was something spectacular. Plus, the rainy season had been the better of the two seasons they suffered through. Something in the grass caught his eye. It had been only for a moment, but that moment was long enough to pull his attention. Attentive eyes stared off into the wild, seeking to find out what was out there. Not too long after the figure disappeared, another grew close to it. Akuma was curious as to what was happening, but he was not going to allow these felines to start trying to work together and take his lands.
Moving out from the protection of the overhang, he was now walking through the rain. He made his way carefully off the rock and onto the solid ground. As paws hit the mud, he heard the squish beneath his pads. It was a strange feeling, but he had more important things to worry about. As he moved, his silver eyes stayed on the area he had seen the two figures. Not too far from where he was walking, they were under the cover of a tree. All the while, the rain had already soaked his hide. His long mane now clung to his body, not as brilliant appearing as he usually was. He ignored his looks and moved to the pair. He looked over them, the male first. He was much like himself, a male with a darker mane. Although, he was on the smaller side. But he could tell this lion was younger than he was. He was not too worried about this lion. His silver eyes moved to the female. She was a beautiful lioness, and he figured he should tread lightly between the two - should they be mated to one another. It was not common to find a male and female pair wandering the reserve together. He smelled their scents, both very different from one another. They held no lines to a pride or anything like that. Were they both here to join his? There was only one way to find out. "I could not help but to notice the both of you here.." He moved to stand beneath the branches, hoping to stop some of the rain from pelting his back. "I am Akuma and this is Dakarai. Are you seeking acceptance?" He looked to them both, curious as to what their answers would be to him. He hoped his assumption was right, but if it were wrong, he always had a second plan.
The rain falling onto the leaves and hitting the dirt was throwing her off. Rounded ears kept moving around as she kept her eyes towards the large rock formation. With a sigh she lowered her head to nudge the dead animal, wondering is she should just eat it while she waited. A large paw flopped over the top of it, but the sudden sound of something scraping the ground behind her, the lioness jerked her head up and pulled her paw back. Yellow eyes rested on the male before her. It looked like he had just been out in the rain, drops of water ran off his heavy mane but he wasn't soaked to the skin either. "I presume you're a traveler?" She rose to a sitting position, unsure if his comment was made from one of the the pride or another not yet associated with a pride. "Yes sir, currently I am a traveler."
Just shortly after speaking, she caught movement in the rain. Another male was headed their way. "I could not help but to notice the both of you here.." She got to her paws and moved back a little bit to allow more breathing space between the three under the tree. He had been out in the rain more, his heavy mane was a little longer than the first male. Neither male seemed meek and for a second, looking at both of them, she wondered if this was such a good idea. Pushing past her odd doubt, the lioness picked her head up a little bit. She was smaller of course, but all the more reason to not act terribly meek at this point. "I am Akuma and this is Dakarai. Are you seeking acceptance?" Neither male seemed upset she was here so that was at least a good thing despite the rain falling overhead. Vicky lowered her head just a little. "Yes si…"
Leaves moved ahead, weighed down by water and allowing a small amount to fall on her muzzle, flustering the lioness briefly. She glanced up towards the tree before turning back to the two lions before her. "Yes sir. I seek acceptance into the pride of Dakarai. I am sorry to bring you both out in the rain, but it was clear when I decided to come early this morning, but it didn't stay that way long." Vicky stopped talking, deciding she was already starting to ramble a little. As she thought about the fact that she knew the name of one lion and not the other, she noticed in what she had said, her name was not in there. "Oh! I forgot my name. I'm sorry, my name is Vicky." With a nod she quit talking to see what the guys would say.
The slight pitter of steadily increasing rainfall made Nuru twitch his nose in distaste. It would make the trek home increasingly difficult. Unsureness filled his tan gaze, and he was about to apologise and leave when the femme speaks. Yes sir, currently I am a traveler. His bent ivory whiskers twitch slightly with amusement at the lioness's formal tone. He's about to respond when another lion proudly strides up to the two.
I am Akuma and this is Dakarai. Are you seeking acceptance? Nuru pauses. He remembers his father, being the King of a Pride long before he had existed. Maybe he could follow in his footsteps. He hadn't considered it before - now it seemed like the most logical thing to do. Yes sir. I seek acceptance into the pride of Dakarai. I am sorry to bring you both out in the rain, but it was clear when I decided to come early this morning, but it didn't stay that way long. The lion blinks with surprise.
"I also look for acceptance into Dakarai." Nuru says, smiling slightly. He dips his head; a lesson from his father, and feels a few stray drops of water trickle down onto his muzzle. He straightens back up and tilts his head. Oh! I forgot my name. I'm sorry, my name is Vicky. The small lion nods, momentarily forgetting that he was in the presence of strangers. "My name is Nuru."

Both of them seemed to be rather respectful to the King. It was a good sight to see. He gave a slight nod of his head. "Don't worry about making me come out into the rain. It's not that big of a deal. Plus, we should be thankful for the wet season, for nobody really knows how horrible the dry season will be to us." Akuma looked to the female first, as she replied first. She introduced herself as the name 'Vicky'. He would have to remember that, keeping track of all the females together. It was getting rather hard to keep them apart. "So tell me Vicky, are you one to hunt prey or herbs?" he was interested in where she came from, but often found it rude to try and question others about their past in front of another.
Then the male spoke. "Nuru, I only have two ranks available to males in my pride. One would be Paladin, and the other Guardian. Neither of which are rather safe. You will be tasked with keeping the pride safe from any wandering coalitions. I have a Paladin already, and one Guardian. Which would you like to join? In the future, I may test your abilities with a spar - to make sure you are a good fit." He looked over the younger male and smiled. "Are you both from the reserve or out in the wilds?"

As the other male said he was also seeking acceptance into the pride, Vicky glanced over at him. She was the smallest one here, not that it was a surprise, most males tended to be larger than lionesses. Yellow eyes watched him dip his head down a little. As he gave his name, she glanced from one to the other matching names and faces in her mind a few times to hopefully not forget anytime soon. Turning back to Akuma, she was glad he wasn't upset over being rained on and finding two strangers on his pride's turf. He had been very right about the dry season. It might be harder than normal during those times, only time would tell. As he asked her if she wanted to hunt meat or herbs she picked her head up a little more. He was willing to allow her in. Her tail twisted back and forth two times before she calmed down to listen to what else he had to say.
As he listed a brief idea of the ranks for Nuru, she couldn't help but notice neither rank was a relaxing job. Lionesses could at least gather herbs if they didn't have the drive to go after prey. She glanced over at Nuru, either way he would put his life out there, but then again they both were seeking to join the pride and knew it wasn't a walk in the park. The next question Akuma brought up though made her a little nervous. Would her being from outside these walls make a big difference. Rounded ears dropped back and then forward again, Vicky sat a little unsure if what she had to say would change much. "I grew up out of the reserve. One of my sisters was learning the herbs but I love the thrill of a hunt. My sister and I were a good pair together…. I did bring a hare…."
Glancing down to the ground, yellow eyes searched before she nodded towards the lifeless form. "I caught it on my way here, hoping it would show that I can hunt and would hopefully be a value to your pride." Glancing out from under the tree, rain was still coming down, but it seemed to of lessened a little. No one could guess if it would start pouring hard in a few seconds or taper off. With a soft sigh she turned back to Akuma and Nuru. They were the first ones she got to meet within the reserve and so far she was very happy that the lions here were kind.
The beige flecks in Nuru's tan eyes reflect the weak sunlight and he blinks, slightly blinded. He listens to Akuma with curiosity and his eyebrow raises at the options for the lioness, Vicky. Herbs were never a strong point for him, as he had never really seen any clearly and never thought of them as a useful thing. When the King mentions hunting, excitement hums through his veins. Imagine relaxing while able lionesses went and hunting for your dinner! He flicks his tail and smiles slightly.
Nuru, I only have two ranks available to males in my pride. One would be Paladin, and the other Guardian. Neither of which are rather safe. You will be tasked with keeping the pride safe from any wandering coalitions. I have a Paladin already, and one Guardian. Which would you like to join? In the future, I may test your abilities with a spar - to make sure you are a good fit. Nuru's eyes shine. Safety wasn't an issue here, he was sure of it. "If I may, I would like to join the ranks of the Guardians." he says firmly, flicking an ear.
Pride life wouldn't be the easiest lifestyle but Nuru was sure that he would be able to fit with the other lions and lionesses perfectly.
