These lands are where lions come to be free from the tyranny of man. Their familes are being hunted and killed for their skins, their claws, and for trophies. In the direct center of Africa, lies the Onyejekwe Wildlife Reserve. Poachers and Hunters are not allowed to hunt in these parts. Wild lions find sanctuary, raise up their prides, control land, and fight for territory expansion.
From the start of Onyejekwe Reserve, only one lion pride was formed. Dakarai was formed by King Akuma. Will you choose the life of a family, or will you reside all alone and wander the savannah?

The ground was churned and muddy beneath Nyota's paws. All was silent save the satisfying squish of mud beneath her paws. The slop was slimy between her toes and though she found the sound entertaining the situation was less than comfortable. However, after having traveled for so long she was grateful for the release from the hard, hot ground dry season could bring. Nyota was thankful the majority of her journey had been through the wet season and she did not have to deal with the concerns of locating a water source. While the loss of her family still stung, Nyota knew it would have happened eventually and carried on unperturbed. She'd heard whispers of a pride established in the reserve, and thanked her good fortune for this. The reserve on its own certainly would have suited, but a pride was ideal for her current situation. Nyota figured the pride would be small, only harboring a few members, though really she hardly knew what to expect.
She traversed the unfamiliar terrain with caution, ears swiveling and pink nose quivering as Nyota scanned for creatures that would pose a threat. She noted as she walked the nice location of the territory. Nyota was pleased with the distance from Lewa Quarry, as she was hardly fond of it after her travels. From what she knew of the land, it wasn't far from the watering hole and she could spot a forest looming ahead. Even closer to her stood a large rock, which she would guess was the Pride Rock. She was close.
Nyota picked up her pace a notch, muscles rippling beneath cream fur as her legs extended into a jog. As she neared, her suspicions were confirmed by the scent. There was only one, the smell told her. A male, the king. The pride, in that case, was a lot less numerous than she had hoped, but since coming all this distance Nyota would be reluctant to turn and leave. Perhaps some good could come of this, anyway.
Sharp claws stretched out from their cove of fur and bone. His tail swished behind him gently, not angered or afraid of anything. The large lion King laid in the den he and his pride shared. He cleaned his paws, licking one pad after the other. As he paid attention to his paws, he ignored the chatter that was around him. Rumors and secrets were shared among the lionesses, but he wasn't too worried about it. They were females after all. As he tidied himself up, he made sure to pay close attention to all of his fur. He was not too concerned for his mane, not right now anyways. He stood up and slowly made his way form the back of the den to the entrance. He yawned, allowing his bottom jaw to drop and his tongue to loll out of his mouth. He shook his head from side to side, shaking out his mane from the flattened look it was currently holding.
Akuma walked to the edge of the rock and down the path towards the ground. Each step was taken cautiously as one wrong move and he would find himself sliding down the face of the rock. As he lifted his eyes over the lands, he saw a new form which looked to be lost, or at least in the wrong area. There were no signs of ill wishes or hostility in her stance. Perhaps she was here to join his pride? He pondered over the possible reasons an attractive lioness as herself would come here for. He held his head high as he broke the gap between them. He did not get too close, as not to break her personal space, but just enough to smell her. He could tell that she was not from around the reservation. He had smelled several lionesses and lions that had come from beyond the great walls. She seemed to be in good shape, maybe needing a little more to eat. As Akuma looked over her form, his mind came up with the tons of questions he planned to ask all who wished to join his pride. His head did not lower or rise, and his tone was rather neutral - not warm and inviting or cold and unfriendly. "Salamu1, my name is Akuma, and I am King of these lands. You have found the pride, Dakarai. How can I assist you?"
Perhaps her nose had misled her, because there were far more lions here than she had originally perceived. It was a comforting notion, and Nyota was not all too bothered by the size of the pride. She'd only ever known her family, having never been raised in a pride, and though strange as it was she welcomed the change. Nyota would have to readjust to cooperative living, though it was a challenge she was confident of herself with. It didn't take long for Nyota to be noticed and approached, and she was rather impressed both by that and the apparent king of the pride. He was quite a bit larger than her, with attention catching silver eyes. He appeared to be very well-groomed, and Nyota would admit that he was quite handsome. The tip of Nyota’s tail flicked once as she finished sizing him up, noticing appreciatively he kept a distance between them. He spoke formally, voice neutral and devoid of any particular bias.
"Salamu, my name is Akuma, and I am King of these lands. You have found the pride, Dakarai. How can I assist you?"
Nyota listened to the words he spoke, head dipping to him very slightly for a moment though her eyes never left his face. Unlike others, he did not try to assert himself, though his tone seemed to demand respect without being overbearing. Akuma Nyota repeated in her head, Interesting name. Nyota allowed her body to relax, sensing Akuma’s non-hostility, but would still throw in a nonchalant stretch on occasion to display her muscles. As Akuma’s words came to an end, Nyota spoke.
”Salamu,” She returned, ”I am Nyota, and I am but a wayfaring loner. I’ve come in from off the reserve, in search of something better and safer than the life I left behind. Would you say your pride, Dakarai, fits my needs?" Nyota finished, wanting to be sure of this place and what it had to offer before she dove right in. She was hoping, though, that after her long time wandering she'd finally found a place to settle down.
When he approached her, she nodded her head in respect for him. It was a good thing to see from her. She had been taught well by her parents or someone in her life. Akuma did not budge even a little. She needed to now that this was a serious issue. Yes he was kind and non-judgmental. As she spoke, he listened to her words intently. "Nyota, that is a beautiful name." He spoke gently. "Dakarai is a place of security and protection. Once you join us, you are a member of the family. Our rules are pretty simple. Don't go too far, and if you do, don't do it alone. If you see a human, let it be. The last thing we need is to wage a war in the reserve. Don't kill more than what we need to survive. It's wasteful and if we kill too much, it could make the food disappear. As a lioness, I would assume that you will be a huntress, unless you are familiar with healing or gathering?" He did not wish to be seen as rude, but that was just how it was. "You don't have to tell me about your past if you do not want to.." He gave a soft smile to her. "Nyota, do you promise to serve under Dakarai to be faithful and swear your life to the pride?" If she did not agree to do it, then he would chase her from the lands, but if she accepted then he would welcome her.
The corner of Nyota's lips turned up slightly at the compliment, noting the kind way he spoke. The King did not budge in his ways, and Nyota took comfort in knowing Dakarai had a firm foundation. A wavering, indecisive leader, she’d learned, could bring destruction upon themselves and their group. From what Nyota had gathered, Dakarai was not an unstable place, and that brought comfort to the lioness. At the mention of being a member of a family again, Nyota’s grin flourished further. Perhaps this was her chance to get the family she’d never had growing up. Akuma seemed nothing like her father, and for that Nyota was grateful. Though the rules of never travelling alone irked the voyager, Nyota could assume there was some sense in the law.
“If you see a human on the reserve, let it be.”
Nyota grimaced at the thought of humans, rather disappointed that her hopes of avoiding them for the rest of her life seemed improbable. She would do her best to steer clear of any she happened across, though wished she didn’t have to come into contact with the brutes at all. Nyota was relieved that the topic was brushed upon only briefly and they could move on to other matters. Nyota prided herself on her hunting skills, having survived alone for so long using them, but there would be difficulty now in hunting for lions other than herself. While Nyota did possess a very minor self-taught knowledge of herbs, just enough to throw something together to keep from bleeding out, she did not believe herself (and rightly so) fit for the position of a healer. Herbs and remedies were lost on her, and she much preffered the thrill of hunting to sniffing out plants. “I do not see myself to be fit for any healer position of sorts, no.” Nyota replied with a shake of her head, falling silent to listen to the King. Nyota was once again relieved as he did not press for any information of her history, not willing to share at the moment though figuring later she would grow comfortable enough to do so. A smile was a nice look on him, and that combined with his next question brought a grin to Nyota’s face. While the promise seemed daunting, Nyota would not be turning back now, not after how far she had come to get here.
